How to Improve Everyday Communication

COMMUNITY WORKSHOP

Tuesday 26th October
12pm – 1pm

Communication difficulties are very commonly experienced after stroke. Often stroke survivors feel restricted in the activities they can do due to difficulties talking to strangers. However, there are initiatives that can help to navigate these tricky conversations.

The UK-wide charity, Headway, has developed the Brain Injury Identity Card. This personalised and verified ID Card provides stroke survivors with added confidence in everyday social scenarios, enabling the effects of their injury and their needs to be more easily identified. The Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists established Communication Access UK, a multi-partner initiative which was co-developed to provide free communication training for organisations to enable them to better communicate with people living with communication difficulties, and a means by which stroke survivors can identify those who have undergone this training. Both organisations will join us to speak about these initiatives in this interactive session.
